The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources would like to remind all people who enjoy the outdoors that black bears are out and about, and you need to be aware. Here especially in northern Minnesota there is a good chance that you may see black bears. The DNR wants to remind you that black bears are seldom aggressive and rarely injure people. They are naturally cautious and usually try to avoid contact with people. Just because a bear has been sighted in your area does not mean that your safety is in jeopardy. The Minnesota DNR has partnered with BearWise which is a program to help educate people about bears and what you need to know if you ever do have an encounter that was not planned. Please visit the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website to learn more about the program and what the DNR recommends as safety tips for you.
