23 years ago today, September 11th 2001, terrorists associated with the extremist group Al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes. They deliberately crashed two of the planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and a third into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers fought back against the hijackers. The attacks resulted in nearly 3,000 deaths and had profound impacts on U.S. domestic and foreign policy, including the initiation of the War on Terror and changes in security practices worldwide. It remains a day of remembrance and reflection for many. Today I ask you to take a moment and remember all those affected by that fateful day.
