On Oct 16th at approximately 730 in the evening, the Virginia Police Department was dispatched to a fight on the 200 block of 3rd Street South in Virginia. The reporting party advised that the victim, a white 38-year-old male was being punched by two other males and stated that one of the male’s possibly had a knife. Upon arrival, Virginia Police Officers briefly spoke with a black juvenile male that ultimately fled on foot. Officers ran after the male and located him near a residence on 3rd Street South and 3rd Avenue. Saint Louis County Deputy Thorne and K9 Thor assisted with the search. A jacket, ski mask and knife were located under a porch where the juvenile male was apprehended. The second unidentified male suspect had left the area prior to law enforcement’s arrival. The victim sustained minor injuries from the fight and was not cut or stabbed by a knife. The juvenile male was arrested and lodged at Arrowhead Juvenile Center on the following charges Underage Drinking, Flee of Foot, and 2nd Degree Assault with a dangerous weapon. The Virginia Police Department is actively investigating the incident to identify the other male party involved.
On 10/18/24 at around 7:30 AM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a vehicle rollover in the 6300 block of Pike Township. Upon arrival, deputies found the sole occupant who was the driver deceased in the car. The vehicle had been traveling southbound on Hwy 21 and lost control, rolling his vehicle until it hit a tree in the ditch. The driver has been identified as Anthony Hall, 22 years old of Virginia, MN

St. Louis County Jail inmate in Hibbing has been arrested after escaping custody Thursday. Laron Brown was being seen at the Fairview Range Medical Center after reporting chest pains to jail staff. After being cleared to return to the jail, Brown escaped on foot from the deputy guarding him. He was taken into custody around 10:30 this morning after an extensive search of Hibbing. Brown was being held for felony domestic assault by strangulation on $100,000 bail. Additional charges for Escape from Custody are pending.
A fire in the Laurentian District of the Superior National Forest burned nearly 8.5 acres of timber. This happened around 6 p.m. on Thursday southeast of Cook, near the Pfeifer Lake Campground. Wildfire crews spent the night working the fire and cleaning up around the edges. The fire is suspected to be human-caused, though it is currently unknown. The site was a future/proposed prescribed burn unit.
The National Weather Service is predicting a fairly normal Minnesota winter. The agency released its winter forecast last week and said much of the state should experience wetter-than-average conditions. Some parts of Minnesota will also see cooler-than-normal temperatures, which could lead to an increased amount of snow. The Twin Cities area received just under 30 inches of snow last year, while snowfall during an average year is around 54 inches.
