A nationwide recall of meat and poultry products potentially contaminated with listeria has expanded to nearly 12 million pounds and now includes ready-to-eat meals sent to U.S. schools, restaurants, and major retailers. The recall includes prepared salads, burritos, and other foods sold at stores including Costco, Trader Joe’s, Target, Walmart, and Kroger. The recalled foods can be identified by establishment numbers “51205 or P-51205” inside or under the USDA mark of inspection. Listeria infections typically cause fever, muscle aches, and tiredness and may cause stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Symptoms can occur quickly or for up to 10 weeks after eating contaminated food. The infections are especially dangerous for older people, those with weakened immune systems, or who are pregnant.








The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is predicting a poor deer hunting season for Minnesota this year. According to their preview for what hunters could expect to have happen this season statewide and according to their results, they say that the mild winter boosted the population in central and southern parts of the state, but they think it had a negative impact in the northern part of Minnesota. According to some experts there are several main reasons why it had a negative impact up in the northern part of the state vs the rest of the state. They also are predicting it will take years to recover from the negative impacts.





Thousands of teachers from across the state are attending  the annual Minnesota Educator Conference today (Thurs)  in St. Paul.   Education Minnesota President Denise Specht says this is a premier event for professional development for educators.  She says there are classes  that address everything from the teacher shortage,  building networks for new educators,  managing education debt and coping with stress on the job.   Micia Mosely, the founder and director of The Black Teacher Project of Oakland, California is the keynote speaker.







A petition filed with the state Supreme Court alleges Hennepin County failed to consider election judge candidates submitted by the Republican Party.    Andy Cilek of the Minnesota Voters Alliance says none of the five appointments to absentee ballot board was on the G-O-P’s list of 15 hundred names.  Republican Party officials say they don’t know the political affiliations of those appointed to the absentee ballot board.  The groups are hoping the Supreme Court will hold a hearing on the matter as soon as next Thursday.









St. Louis County is leading the state and the nation in implementing geothermal technology and the treatment of harmful chemicals at its regional landfill in Virginia. A 10-acre geothermal landfill cell that generates energy from disposed solid waste is the first of its kind in Minnesota. St. Louis County is sitting at the forefront of cutting edge state and national wastewater treatment clean-up technology.
