The Grand Rapids City Council held a meeting yesterday at the Grand Rapids City Hall Council chambers. During the meeting Mayor Connelly mentioned that 8 million dollars in a state grant was provided to Grand Rapids. Largest in the state, will help lowering tax payer help. A public forum was held which included a member of the public asking for the city to look into the noise ordinance that is on file with the city. Noise has been bad which has created issues in her own home. Had a noise decimal reader which read around 100 which are close to concert event noise level.
Continuing on, meeting minutes from last meeting were motioned and approved as well as verified claims via roll call. Consent agenda was motioned and approved via roll call as well.
Tom Pagel presented the Rapids Radio Rockfest which also also asked the city to partner with Rapids Radio and Rapids Brewery. Will be located at Block 18. GM of Rapids Radio Marcus Lind spoke to the council regarding their questions and concerns. Motion was approved and accepted by the council.

A 32-year-old Buhl man suffered non-life-threatening injuries Monday when the pickup he was driving southbound left Highway 169 and rolled into the median near Mineral Avenue, a Minnesota State Patrol report said. Damion Joseph Mittelstadt was taken to Virginia Essentia Hospital by the Virginia Ambulance after the accident on a snowy/icy Highway 169 according to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol. Mittelstadt was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department and the Mountain Iron Fire Department assisted with the crash.
A 25-year-old Duluth man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Allisa Vollan. During a plea hearing on September 17th, Dale Howard admitted to second-degree murder by strangulation while committing domestic assault. Officials say Howard killed Vollan on the morning of March 22nd. Howard agreed to an upward departure of 150 months in prison to 240 months during the plea deal due to the DANCO (Domestic Abuse No Contact Order) violation after an alleged assault on Vollan earlier in March.
