Hibbing Police, Fire Respond to Self-Inflicted Fire Incident

On April 9, 2026, at approximately 3:35 PM, Hibbing Police Department Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Mesabi Drive for the report of female that was threatening to light herself on fire. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female inside the garage on fire. Officers quickly extinguished the fire and provided medical attention. The female was transported to Fairview Range and later, airlifted to the Hennepin County Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate that the injuries were the result of a self-inflicted act. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest the involvement of any other parties. The incident remains under investigation pending final review by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office. The Hibbing Police Department was assisted by the Hibbing Fire Department and Hibbing Ambulance Service.
