In recognition of its commitment to patient safety and quality, Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital earned an A grade from The Leapfrog Group, the highest rating awarded by the independent nonprofit that sets national standards for hospital safety. The grade reflects the organization’s strong performance in preventing medical errors, accidents, injuries, and infections. Grand Itasca is one of only eight hospitals in Minnesota to receive an A rating.
“This achievement is a direct result of the exceptional teamwork that happens across every corner of our organization—from clinical units to support services,” said Christy Gustafson, RN, Senior Director of Quality & Risk at Grand Itasca. “This A grade is more than a designation, it reflects the collective dedication, expertise, and compassion our teams bring to patients every day. It belongs to all of us.”
Leapfrog evaluates hospitals twice each year to help patients make informed decisions about where to receive care. Grades are based on up to 30 performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, and additional safety data that hospitals voluntarily report, including metrics on falls, length of stay, staffing levels, safe medication administration, and nursing engagement and leadership.
