Cohasset City Council Update: October 8th 2024

Meeting called to order at 7 from Mayor Andy MacDonell

All council members including mayor present

Work session meeting was concluded at 6:50 pm


Citizen Input

  • Kim Howard: Farmers Market

    • Looking at every Thursday possibly

    • Looking into other cities as well

    • Would like to participate in other community events but space is limited

    • Thanks to the city of Cohasset for providing public restrooms

    • Looking into vendor fees is also being considered

    • Hoping to have food trucks particpate as well


October 8th 2024 Meeting Agenda

  • One addition made to the agenda: 2024-21 Grant Funding Request

  • all other items were motioned and approved as written


Cohasset Fire Department

  • 285 calls so far this season, about normal, will hit 300 plus this year at this rate

  • Andy submitted his resignation for retirement from the Fire Department after 23 years, letter was motioned and approved by council.

  • Recruitment is still an ongoing process


Parks and Recreation

  • lots of programming through out the summer and already starting for fall

  • Twins Baseball clinic: 150 kids, took place in May

  • T Ball: 88 kids participated, broken into 6 teams

  • Adult Flag Football

  • Paddle and Beer Event: 40 paddlers joined included people from Rochester, Green Bay and St Louis

  • Summer Solstice Celebration: 5 participated

  • Moth and Moon Hike: 18 participated

  • Star Party: Star and Moon viewing with high powered telescope, 26 people attended

  • Farmers Market

  • Thrill Seeker Mountain Biker Race: 300 racers attended

  • Fall: Soccer: 23 kids attended, kid football: 27 kids attended

  • Halloween Party: October 31st 2024, 5 pm to 7pm, open to public

  • Winter: Upcoming: Skiing and Hiking opportunities, Cribbage Club

  • Christmas Party: December 5th 5pm-7pm, Light the Night, Food, music, Santa, and fireworks.


Other Topics

  • Public Water: Tioga Pit public hearing date: Nov 26th at 7:05 pm at City Hall

  • Sewer Cleaning: Bid from Nelson Sanitation: accepted and approved by council

  • Employee Resignation and promotion: approved by council

  • New Employee Hire: approved by council

  • Forward Health Foundation: request to use Community Center for fundraising event: approved by council

  • Voting Funding: partnership with city of Cohasset and Itasca County: approved by council

  • Election Judges: $ 16 an hour: approved by council

  • Consent Agenda: approved as written by council
