Chippewa National Forest Plans Controlled Burns

Chippewa National Forest fire crews plan to conduct prescribed fires starting this week dependent on current and forecasted local weather conditions. The prescribed burn areas are located approximately 5 miles south of Squaw Lake, in Bowstring Lake Township.  Other areas include West of State Hwy 46 and South of Forest Rd 2171 near the Cut Foot Sioux Horse Camp. Operations by fire crews will reduce the potential for wildfires by reducing hazardous fuel loads. In addition, prescribed fire restores a once occurring natural process for which our ecosystems rely on for fire adapted plants and trees.  Prescribed fires are conducted under specific weather conditions and are designed to accomplish pre-determined forest management goals. Chippewa National Forest fire staff follow strict guidelines for conducting prescribed burns.
