Bigfork, MN — Bigfork Schools have been named the winner of the MnDOT Golden Snow Boot Award, an annual recognition presented by the Minnesota Safe Routes to School (MnSRTS) program. The award celebrates schools that demonstrate outstanding participation in
winter walking and biking activities.
The Golden Snow Boot Award is designed to encourage, celebrate, and promote safe, active, and fun ways for students to walk, bike, or roll to school during the winter months. Schools from across Minnesota participate by submitting stories and photos showcasing their Winter Walk to School Day events.
This year, Bigfork Schools stood out for their enthusiasm and commitment to keeping students active during the winter season. Physical Education teacher Dexi Maxa helped lead the effort by
taking students out for a walk on Winter Walk to School Day, creating a fun and engaging opportunity for students to experience active transportation even during Minnesota’s colder months.
The Golden Snow Boot Award is part of broader Minnesota Department of Transportation(MnDOT) efforts to improve pedestrian safety and encourage healthy, sustainable transportation choices for youth.
Schools and communities will have another opportunity to participate in active transportation events this spring. Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day will take place on May 6, encouraging students and families across Minnesota to safely walk, bike, or roll to school together.
