An escapee from the Northeast Regional Corrections Center in Saginaw has been taken into custody.
Earlier today, members of the Lake Superior Violent Offenders Task Force, St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, Aitkin Itasca Mille Lacs VCET and Itasca County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant in Cohasset.
Michael Hart was taken into custody for an active arrest warrant following his escape from custody from the Northeast Regional Corrections Center in Saginaw on September 23rd.
Members of the Lake Superior Violent Offenders Task Force began looking for Hart shortly after receiving information that he was back on the iron range area after his initial escape. Information was obtained on Hart’s location through the investigation that led to the search warrant in Cohasset.
During the execution of the search warrant, Hart was believed to be hiding inside the basement of the residence. Hart was later located underneath the basement stairwell and refused to exit the stairwell. Pepper ball was deployed, which led to him being placed into custody. He remained uncooperative after being placed in handcuffs and assaulted deputies at the scene.
Devon Shackelton was also placed under arrest for aiding an offender.
Hart and Shackelton were transported and lodged at the Itasca County Jail, pending arraignment for new charges associated with the incident.
