Charges against an Itasca County administrative assistant have been dismissed, but there’s a new wrinkle.
On Tuesday, one felony charge of interception of wire, electronic, or oral communications was dismissed against Anna Cass. The incident, which occurred a year ago, alleged that Cass monitored a conversation she shouldn’t have been party to with official equipment.
The first felony charge was dismissed against Cass in August for insufficient cause.
The investigation was handled by the Lake County’s Sheriff’s office. All Itasca County district court judges recused themselves. Lake County prosecutor Lisa Hanson stated in the dismissal affidavit, she became aware of new information regarding the role of Itasca County Sheriff’s Vic Williams. She said Williams allegedly made self-incriminating statements in transcripts from an internal investigation. Hanson said she didn’t believe justice could be served without first investigating Williams’ role.
