Beginning today, the Mississippi River, Pokegama Lake, and Jay Gould will be under a no-wake zone. Itasca County Sheriff Vic Williams said that because of the high water levels, debris from land gets washed into the river and lake and can get pulled into the boat’s wake. Shore-land erosion also occurs more quickly with high moving water. The no-wake enforcement is supported by the DNR.
With the flood-stage rainfall we’ve had, Williams also asked motorists to be careful driving over roadways that standing water.
