Two men have been charged in the armed robbery of the Dollar General in Deer River on Wednesday. Eighteen year old Montana Cutbank of Cass Lake and twenty-two year old Norman Cutbank of Duluth have both been arraigned on charges of first degree armed robbery.
The men allegedly entered the Dollar General store in Deer River wearing sweatshirts that were tied around their faces, pointed a handgun at the clerk’s face, and demanded cash. The suspects entered S&S Bottleshop and were picked up in a silver Mountaineer.
Thursday, a citizen traveling to work found a backpack near County Road 142 with clothes matching the suspect’s description. The backpack also contained a piece of paper labeled “dad”- with a phone number. Officers called the number and identified the parent of the two men.
The vehicle was located and impounded. As deputies were executing a search warrant, they discovered two more people hiding under clothing in the rear of the vehicle.
At the hearing Friday, Norman Cutbank’s bail was set at $400,000without conditions. Montana Cutbank’s bail was set at $200,000 without conditions.

Both men are expected back in court on Monday, February 5th.
