The Taconite American Legion baseball team returned to its home diamond on Monday afternoon to take on North Shore in a pair of District 8 contests. Taconite rolled to a double header sweep, knocking off North Shore, 4-0, and 15-0.

In game one, Tyler Peterson was in command. The right hander struck out 14 batters while picking up the complete game shutout. He allowed only three hits in picking up his second win of the summer.

Kole Kalisch finished with two hits and a run batted in for Taconite in the win. Tyler Peterson drove home two runs while Taylor Lantz drove in a run as well in the win.

Taconite jumped ahead early and often in game two. Taconite scored seven runs in the first and added six more in the second en route to the 15-0 win. Justin Guyer, John Labine, Mike LaDoux and Nick Shea recorded two hits each. Lantz drove in two runs while Guyer, Kole Kalisch, Peterson, Sam LaDoux, Mike LaDoux, Shea and Jeff Korpi each plated a run in the win.

Jeff Korpi earned the win on the mound. He allowed only one hit in three innings of work. He struck out three and walked two batters. Sam LaDoux closed out the game pitching the final two innings. He allowed three hits while striking out two.

Taconite sits at 7-3 overall on the season and will take on Grand Rapids at 7 p.m. tonight at Legion field in Grand Rapids.
