Taconite shut the door early on Deer River, capturing a 10-4 victory on Friday.

With five runs in the first three innings, Taconite left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

An RBI single by Jaden Erkkila during the second inning fueled Taconite’s offense early.
Erkkila racked up four RBIs on four hits for Taconite. Kole Kalisch had a strong day at the dish as well. He connected for a deep home run to left in the win.

Jeff Korpi baffled Deer River, striking out six batters. Korpi allowed no earned runs, four hits and five walks over five innings to pick up the win.

Erkkila pitched two innings and allowed three runs, no earned runs, in closing out the game for Taconite.

Jeffrey Moore couldn’t get it done on the bump for Deer River, taking a loss. He allowed nine runs in five innings, walked one and struck out none.

Taconite matched its one-run fourth inning with one more in the sixth. In the fourth, Taconite scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike LaDoux, bringing home Taylor Lantz.

Taconite built upon its lead with three runs in the fifth. A hit into a fielder’s choice scored Kole Kalisch to get Taconite on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Erkkila’s single, plating John Labine.
