A great way to celebrate the holidays with your family and get a Christmas Tree for $5 or enough balsam boughs to make five wreaths for only $20 is to visit the Superior National Forest. Stop by a Forest Service Office for a $5 permit to cut down a Christmas Tree, households are allowed two permits a year. To obtain a permit to cut enough balsam boughs to make 5 door size wreaths contact the Forest Service Office nearest where you plan to harvest the boughs. If you plan to harvest a large amount of boughs a commercial permit must be purchased. The Forest Service recommends you make the trip enjoyable and safe by following some safety tips available on their web site www.fs.usda.gov/superior.
