A possible ceiling collapse was averted at Coleraine’s Hodgins – Berardo arena last week. The facility was closed when a crack in one of the roof trusses split open resulting in the cancellation or moving of all events. Arena Manager Pat Guyer said that it was probably the snow load and the fact the building is over 50 years old. A local company, Hawk Construction was called in to repair the damages. Metal plates are being installed to reinforce the trusses wherever cracks have appeared, making them stronger than before. Hawk Construction will also prepare a report on other infrastructure items that may need repairing in the future.
