A late-season winter storm will move through the region tonight through Thursday morning. Rain will spread northward this afternoon and this evening, and will change to a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow starting in the Arrowhead this evening. Most of Minnesota and far northern portions of Wisconsin should note the changeover before 7 AM Wednesday. Ice accumulation of one-quarter to one-half inch is possible in the Arrowhead, and areas north and east of Grand Marais could see more than one-half inch of ice. The potential for icing decreases farther south and west of the North Shore, including the Iron Range, Twin Ports, and northern Wisconsin. Those areas could see between one-tenth and one-quarter of an inch of ice. Two to 4 inches of snow are possible from near Walker to Silver Bay and areas north into the Iron Range. Travel may become difficult where ice and snow accumulation is highest. Isolated power outages are possible if tree branches and power lines fail due to the weight of the ice accumulation and winds. The system moves out of the area on Thursday and precipitation should end as all snow.
