If you served within 12 nautical miles of Vietnam, you should check your veteran’s benefits.
Over forty-one hundred veterans call Itasca County home. Over seventy-percent of them are over 65 years old. Luke St. Germain, Itasca County’s Veterans Service Officer, told the public during the Itasca County board meeting, that because of the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veteran’s Act, signed in June, disability benefits are extended to veterans who served on Navy ships off the coast of Vietnam. This clears the way for former sailors and Marines to receive compensation for diseases presumed to be caused by exposure to Agent Orange.
