Minnesota Power’s Boswell Energy center in Cohasset will conduct multi-agency hazardous materials exercises on Saturday. From 8 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m.. these exercise will include: Minnesota Power’s hazmat team, Grand Rapids and Cohasset fire departments, Grand Rapids Chemical Assessment Team (CAT), Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, MEDS 1 (Emergency Medical Service), Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital and Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM).
About 80 firefighting, public safety and other personnel will participate in medical preparedness and rescue training.
The exercise is designed to give public safety professionals the knowledge necessary to enhance the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of medical response and clinical care following a hazardous materials incident.
Area residents will see numerous fire trucks, rescue vehicles and personnel in and around the plant entrance as part of the planned exercise. Barricades at the facility and training area will restrict access to the site.
