In the local crime report from the Grand Rapids Police Department:
- A two vehicle accident occurred Monday February 10th on 5th Avenue NE. A vehicle in traffic swerved to avoid another vehicle that had slid out because of icy road conditions. That vehicle managed to stop. The school bus following it did not. It slid on the icy road surface, rear-ending the vehicle that had stopped. There was minor damage to both; however neither driver was injured. Fortunately there wasn’t any school children on the bus at the time of the accident.
- The sixth call in a two hour period resulted in two arrests. A suspect had made terroristic threats to law enforcement. When officers arrived at the apartment the door was slammed in their face, necessitating a forced entry by officers. They observed one suspect crawling out the bedroom window and ordered him to stop, he did not; the officer deployed his TASER which unfortunately was ineffective due to the bulky clothing the suspect was wearing. The officer ran into the back yard and again ordered the suspect to stop. This time the suspect got hung up in deep snow and complied with the officers order. He was handcuffed and arrested for making terroristic threats, fleeing on foot and obstructing the legal process. The second suspect in the apartment was also charged with fleeing on foot and obstructing the legal process.
