Independent School District 318 was awarded $4.7 million dollars by the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board on Wednesday.
The $74 million building plan will create two elementary schools in Grand Rapids and a K-5 community school in Cohasset. The money will be used to lower the district’s portion to $68.9 million dollars.
The money comes from the agency’s Iron Range School Consolidation and Cooperatively Operated School Account. The fund was created to entice smaller schools to merge. Grand Rapids has already merged with a number of smaller school.
The district’s referendum vote is scheduled for April 10th.
