Grand Rapids returned home in a big way in picking up an 11-3 victory over Taconite on Tuesday evening at Legion Field in Grand Rapids.
Grand Rapids scored three in the first inning and added four in the second to break the game open early. Grand Rapids eventually thwarted a bases loaded rally for Taconite in the fourth. Taconite scored two runs, however, a strike three call with the bases full ended the inning.
Taconite added another run in the fifth inning but Grand Rapids added two more runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away en route to the victory.
Gunnar Harris finished with four hits and drove in four runs for Grand Rapids. Kenn Hasbargen drove home three runs while John Baker plated two in the contest. Noah Johnson finished with three hits as well.
John Baker picked up the win. He pitched a third of an inning of relief, escaping a bases loaded jam in the fourth. Hasbargen started on the mound and pitched three and two-thirds allowing two runs on only one hit. He struck out one while walking five batters.
Jaden Erkilla was saddled with the loss for Taconite. He allowed nine runs, six earned, in five innings of work. He walked three and struck one. Erkilla had two hits and drove in a run for Taconite while John Labine, Kole Kalisch and Kadin Kalisch had hits as well.
