It’s estimated that about a billion dollars in tax refunds go unclaimed each year, but a service statewide is helping folks get back their money – and it’s all free of charge. Hundreds of volunteers across Minnesota are offering free preparation of basic state and federal returns through the A-A-R-P Foundation Tax-Aide program. The free assistance is available to all, but the main focus is helping low-income and older Minnesotans. Here in Itasca County AARP tax assistance is available at the Central Square Mall on Monday’s & Wednesday’s from 9 AM – 5 PM and on Saturday’s from 9 AM till noon in February. There is voice mail available by calling 327-4719. Walk-ins are welcome. More information is available online at the A-A-R-P website.(www.aarp.org)
