This Station is currently working together to update and expand its mailing lists of organizations wishing to receive notices of their job openings. In addition, The station is planning to continue their efforts to recruit widely for job openings at the Station by posting information about future opportunities with a variety of media and other organizations, including but not limited to the organizations that have requested to be on their expanded mailing list. Finally, the Station intends to engage in a variety of long-term recruitment initiatives to better educate the public about careers in broadcasting and better prepare interested students and others to enter or advance in such careers. The Station's next annual report will contain further detail about the progress of those efforts.

Mr. Moore had thirteen years of experience selling radio advertisements at a competing radio station. His radio career ended in August of 2002. At that point, he was employed in another industry. In the summer of 2003, he suggested that he would like to return to the broadcast industry. After many visits, the ownership of Itasca Broadcasting decided his talents would be a valuable asset to our operation, and we created a sales position for Mr. Moore.

Establishment of an intern program designed to assist members of the community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment.
Through our association with the Upward Bound program, and Itasca Community College, per their request, we hosted student Jesse Murray as an intern in broadcasting in various time slots from June 14 through June 17, 2004. He participated in the "Job Shadowing Experience" of both the Program Director and various members of the announcing staff. He experienced writing, recording and programming commercials, learned the basic elements of an on-air shift, and recorded news, weather and public service announcements that were used on the air. Program Director Erin Anderson, Station Owner Mike Iaizzo, On-Air talents Bill Betz and Kathy Lepak, and Traffic Director Karen Wilhelm all participated in his internship.
Participation in scholarship programs designed to assist students interested in pursuing a career in broadcasting.
We participate in an annual scholarship given to broadcast-related students graduating from Itasca Community College. This scholarship has been given for over a decade in conjunction with the Grand Rapids Herald Review, Itasca Community Television and KOZY-KMFY Radio. Managers of each of the entities, including Station Owner Mike Iaizzo, review recommendations from the college as to which students are deserving of our assistance. The award is given annually each spring prior to graduation.
Provision of training to management level personnel as to methods of ensuring equal employment opportunity and preventing discrimination
Station Owner Mike Iaizzo attended the Minnesota Broadcasters EEO Regulations for Broadcaster's Seminar on June 7, 2004 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The seminar was presented by Gregg P. Skall, Attorney at Law with the firm Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge and Rice of Washington, D.C. The seminar summarized the FCC's EEO Rules as they now stand, providing worksheets and help to aide in the station's completion of its public file and EEO forms, which are required by the Commission. Topics covered included EEO Regulations, Anti-Discrimination, and Recruitment, along with Notification Upon Request, Supplemental Initiatives, Record Keeping Requirements, Public File Information, FCC Reports and Filings, Monitoring and Enforcement, and Effective Dates. This day-long seminar proved to be an excellent informational refresher course for Station Management.
Listing of each upper-level opening in a job bank or newsletter of media trade groups whose membership includes substantial participation of women and minorities
In preparation for hiring a Program Director in the summer of 2003, we reached out to the community many ways. In searching, we posted a complete job description statewide on the Minnesota Broadcasters Association's monthly newsletter, as well as their online job posting forum. We also advertised the position in the Duluth News Tribune, the Hibbing Daily News, the Grand Rapids Herald Review, KOZY-KMFY Radio, and alerted both Personnel Dynamics and Search Resources, both of which are job placement services. Station Owner Mike Iaizzo coordinated the search and conducted all resultant interviews.
Provision of training to management level personnel as to methods of ensuring equal employment opportunity and preventing discrimination
Station Program Director Erin Anderson attended the Minnesota Broadcasters EEO Regulations for Broadcaster's Seminar on June 7, 2004 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This day-long seminar proved to be an excellent informational refresher course for Station Management. Miss Anderson has complete recruitment and hiring responsibilities for all things related to on-air personnel. In addition to those responsibilities, she is responsible for contributing material to the Public File and EEO Reports, so the opportunity to attend this seminar was invaluable.
Provision of training to personnel of unaffiliated non-profit organizations interested in broadcast employment opportunities that would enable them to better refer job candidates for broadcast positions
Station Owner Mike Iaizzo has hosted Provost Dr. Mike Johnson, of Itasca Community College, in a tour and description of our broadcast facilities, sharing with him our broadcast philosophies to make him aware of our applicant requirements, engaging him in helping us find candidates for employment opportunities. As a result, engineering student Cameron Porter is applying for a part-time position structured around his current class schedule. Another result of the ongoing conversations between Dr. Johnson and Mike Iaizzo is that a media forum will be presented to the IDC-Jobs 20/20 Community Initiative in January of 2005. This will afford the community the opportunity to learn about the opportunities and responsibilities of the broadcasting community.
December 15, 2004
Bemidji State University student, Andrew Linder, visited with Program Director Erin Anderson about the daily operations of the radio station. The visit was conducted as a course requirement for Mr. Linder's academic studies at the University. The visit included a tour of both radio station studios, an overview of radio staff and getting a general feel for a day of radio operations. Sales operations were discussed, as were the duties of each employee on both the sales and on-air sides of the operation. The visit included a history of the stations, an overview of all equipment and studios, and an informational packet that was discussed in detail about the radio station's focus and place in the community. Mr. Linder was also given information about future job availability requirements, guidelines, and opportunities.
