Itasca County will receive $825,000 over the next two years to try to stop the spread of zebra mussels, Eurasian water-milfoil, purple loosestrife, and zebra mussels. Tuesday, Dan Swenson, Environmental Services Administrator, told the county board how the money is to be used.
The state of Minnesota will spend $4.5 million dollars in 2014 and $10 million in each year after that. The money was appropriated based on each county’s share of watercraft trailer launches and on each county’s share of watercraft trailer parking spots. Only St. Louis County received more money than Itasca.
