Kortekaas resigns as Fire Prevention Officer

The City of Grand Rapids has no major road projects scheduled for the year 2015. The Crystal Lake Boulevard Project was substantially completed last year, and will be finished by June of this year. The project also received honorable mention for the City Engineers Association of Minnesota’s project of the year.
Also at last night’s Grand Rapids City Council meeting, the resignation of Adam Kortekaas as the Fire Prevention and Education Officer position was approved and the Grand Rapids Police Department accepted a donation from Hawkinson Construction to be used towards a K-9 behavior shaping device. The next Grand Rapids City Council meeting is February 9th at 5 o’clock.

District 318 School Board Meets

Facilities are still an issue for Independent School District 318. At last night’s School Board meeting, the board focused on Murphy Elementary School and the problems they are facing with space. Over the next few months, the School Board address each school’s concerns. The board will hold two special work sessions in the month of February.
Also at last night’s ISD 318 School Board meeting, the board recapped their recent winter conference with the Minnesota School Board Association. The next ISD 318 School Board meeting is February 17th at 7 o’clock in Bigfork with the telepresence set up in the Administrative Services Building Board Room.

New Year Hockey

Grand Rapids Thunderhawks getting back on the winning track last week. The losing streak hit 8 games with a loss to Mahtomedi on Monday but then the Thunderhawks rolled to 3 straight wins over St. Francis, Brainerd, and Andover and finished the week with a tie in Hopkins. 2 road games this week. At Hermantown on Tuesday and at Duluth East on Thursday. You can hear both games on 1320 KOZY and kozyradio.com
